Harry D. Bucalo Jr., M.D. returned to his Lord February 25, 2007. He was born May 6, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Xavier High School in New York City, attended Fordham University and received an M.D. degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1949. He married Mary Veronica Ahern of Manhattan and Sayville, NY the same year. He completed his internship and residency in pathology at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He served in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Training Base in Chicago during WW II. His residency program in pathology was interrupted by the Korean War whereupon he served in the U.S. Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base Hospital in Montgomery, AL, as director of pathology from 1950 to 1952. He held the rank of captain when discharged from Mitchell Field in New York.
Upon discharge from the Air Force, he resumed his pathology residency at Bellevue Hospital. He served as Director of Pathology at Miseracordia Hospital in the Bronx, NY from 1959 until 1964. After that, he headed a group of pathologists serving the Detroit area as Director of Pathology at Beyer Memorial Hospital in Ypsilanti, MI. Upon his retirement in 1986, he and his wife moved to Florida where they have been living for the past 21 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years; daughter, Patricia of Naples; three sons, Michael of San Antonio, TX, Peter of Louisville, KY and Harry Thomas of Houston, TX.
