Son of Nathaniel Erwin &
Mary [Faulk] Erwin

Revolutionary War & War of 1812

He moved to NC prior to the
American Revolution and settled
north of the town of Morganton,
which was then a part of Rowan Co.
He built a home and named it
Cherry Fields, and acquired a
substantial amount of land in the
Upper Creek valley.

When Burke County was formed, he
was appointed the first clerk of
the Court of Pleas and Quarter
Sessions in that county.

Resided in Burke County, NC,
during the Revolutionary War.
He was a private in the NC line,
a lieutenant in Capt. Vance's
company at the Battle of King's
Mountain, and achieved the rank
of colonel in the NC Militia.

In the General Assembly of 1781,
he was appointed as one of the
District Auditors for the counties
of Burke, Lincoln, Sullivan, Rutherford,
Washington and Wilkes, and was
responsible for adjusting and settling
claims against the state for military
pay, provisions and services.

Alexander is one of nine patriots
buried in Quaker Meadows and is buried
beside his 1st wife, Sarah.

August 15, 1770 - Morganton, NC [in Rowan Co. then]

2nd married Margaret [Crawford] Patton
June 21, 1786 - Burke Co., NC

At his residence (Cherryfield)
in Burke county, on the 16th instant,
Capt Alexander Erwin,
aged 80 years 8 months and 4 days.
