Lela Mae Charles Walker affectionally called Thelma, was the first born to the late Jospeh and Cora Bell Charles . She was born in Bishopville, South Carolina but the family relocated to Wilmington North Carolina . She attended the new Hanover school system . She graduated from Williston senior high school in May 1957. Then enrolled in Goldsboro bible school.

Lela Mae Charles United in holy matrimony to the late James Alfred Walker of this union , three children were born the family then relocated to Asbury Park New Jersey. She worked at Monmouth medical center where she became a licensed practical nurse.

Lela Mae was grand matron of the eastern star organization she traveled to various states with the organization. Lela Mae United with Shiloh United fellowship church under the leadership rev. Miller she was named mother of the church under leadership pastor Mark White.

Lela Mae retired from Monmouth medical center in the late 90s after a fall in Sears she became homebound. Lela Mae was a inspiration to her siblings as they too united with holy temple United holiness. Where they taught the word ,sang in the choir and ushered.

Left to cherish wonderful and precious memories are her sons Dafford E.Walker ,Joseph L. Walker (Elaine Walker) grandson Larry D. Walker (Erica Nedrick ) her heart beat, great grandson CHASE G Walker. Her daughter Jasmine A . Walker ( deceased ) 3 sisters Hattie L. McKoy ( Richard ), Bettye L. Wilson, Mary A. Harrison and a host of nieces ,nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lela Mae you have fought a good fight ,you have finished your course ,you have kept the faith ,henceforth there is laid up for your crown of righteousness
