Isabella Maria d'Este ( Ferrara , 14 June 1519 - Ferrara , 1521 ) was the last daughter of Alfonso I d'Este and his second wife Lucrezia Borgia . His maternal grandfather was Pope Alexander VI and his uncle Cesare Borgia . His paternal grandparents were Ercole I d'Este and Eleonora d'Aragona , daughter of Ferdinando I of Naples .

The girl was called Isabella in honor of her paternal aunt Isabella d'Este , married to Francesco II Gonzaga . He was born, June 14, 1519, very weak and, fearing he could die without baptism, his father Alfonso immediately baptized her: godfathers were Eleonora della Mirandola and Count Alexandro Serafino.

The mother Lucrezia, already very weak during the whole pregnancy, gave birth to her seriously ill. After a couple of days when he seemed to regain his strength, he got worse again and on the 24th of the same month he died.

Isabella Maria lived in Ferrara another two years and was buried at the Monastery of Corpus Domini next to her mother and her brother Alessandro d'Este . The elder brothers Ercole , Ippolito , Eleonora and Francesco reached adulthood instead and survived the father. Ercole inherited the title from his father becoming duke of Ferrara with the name of Ercole II.
