Doris Irene Hunt was born September 20, 1927 in Bedford, Iowa, the daughter of GL "Lew" and
Elsie E (Shelman) Hunt. Doris married Donald Abernathy October 7, 1947 In Lincoln, NE & they lived their married life in Nebraska City. Doris worked at Pendleton's for several years, was a member of the First United Methodist Church & Nebraska City Lion's Club. She loved fishing, cooking, baking, helping people, & spoiling her family. She was especially known for her delicious banana bread that she shared with most of Otoe County! Her husband, Don, passed away August 18, 1996.
Survivors include her son, Steve Abernathy & fiance' Cyndi Hahn of Nebraska City; daughter Annette Pickering & husband Joe of Beatrice, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in law, Bill & Lavonda Abernathy of Papillion, NE & Gilbert & Darlene Abernathy of Colorado; brother in law, Ray Shepard of Arizona; very special friends & many other relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Eugene Hunt & sister, Betty Shepard,
Doris died May 17, 2018 at Lancaster Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln at the age of 90 years, 7 months, & 28 days.
