Eleanor June Jones, 71, of Port Orchard passed away suddenly on Oct. 25, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton. Eleanor was born on Dec. 3, 1940 in Gig Harbor to Elmer Paul Jones and Althea May (Manginelli)Jones-Carter.
Eleanor enjoyed her young life in Vaughn running on the beaches and fishing with her father. She spent her teen-age years in Silverdale, where she graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1957. On July 28, 1957, Eleanor married Ronald Eugene Gunderson and began her life as a home-maker. By 1972 she had earned a degree in secretarial sciences and began her career at the WSU-Kitsap Co. Cooperative Extension office, from which she retired after 35 years to enjoy the rest of her life with her family and friends.
Eleanor was preceded in death by both her parents; sisters, Donna Thatchell and Catherin Carter; grandsons, Richard Dale Hartman Jr. and Christoper Michael Mulligan, and granddaughter, Violet English Gunderson.
Eleanor's memory will live on through her son, Olaf Gunderson of Bremerton; daughters, Laurie Mulligan-Brown of Hartsville, S.C. and Darla Gunderson of Suquamish; brothers, David Jones and Danny Carter, both of Washington; cousin, Greg Jones of Port Orchard; grandchildren: Shawna Iversen, Darla Coker, Brendan Mathes, Ashlie Mathes, Corey Gunderson, Destiny Gunderson, Daniel Gunderson, Christena Gunderson, Gillian Mulligan, Bridgette Mulligan, Patric Mulligan and Laurie Dannyelle Brown and 18 wonderful great-grandchildren.
