Marvin Arthur Long Jr, 59, passed away October 22, 2018 at his home in Pearland, Texas at 9:42 pm. Marvin was diagnosed nearly 2 years ago with stage 4 cancer. Last week he made the decision to no longer receive treatment. He was able to come home and leave in peace.
Marvin was born in El Campo on May 27, 1959 to Marvin and Darlene Long. He graduated high school at Pearland High School in 1977. He later began his 40-year journey working in the family business, Long’s Auto Repair and Wrecker Service.
Marvin was a believer in family and hard work. He also loved a good practical joke. Aside from his love for his wife and family, his love for fishing was unmatched. He loved nothing greater than to be on the water. It did not matter if it was fishing for perch off the bank or looking for Red Snapper offshore. His passion for fishing also showed when he was teaching others to fish. He was patient and understanding and loved teaching them.
One of the things Marvin had great pride in was being a Mason. His Masonic Journey began at the C.F. Spencer Masonic Lodge #1384 in Pearland, Texas on August 29, 1983. He was later raised to the degree of a Master Mason on November 28, 1983. He worked and studied hard and eventually became the Worshipful Master of the lodge in 1987.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife Linda, his son and daughter in law Anthony and Melody, son and daughter in law David and Vanessa, his granddaughters Macy, Katelyn and Alexis, his great granddaughter Lilith and his Mother and Father Marvin and Darlene, his sister and brother in law Roberta and Tim, his sister and brother in law Frances and Roger, his brother Eddie and Betty, numerous nieces and nephews and a lot of close friends.
Services for Marvin are being held Saturday, October 27, 2018 and Southpark Funeral Home. Regular visitation will begin at 9am with the services to begin at 10am. Weather permitting, there will be a Masonic service at the graveside. A wake will be held at the C.F. Spencer Lodge after the ceremonies. If you plan to attend the wake, please bring a covered dish.
