William Richard “Bill” Meadows, 71, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018, in the Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born March 15, 1947, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Richard Meadows and Belva Sammons Meadows Day. He was also preceded in death by his step father, Charles F. Day, Sr.
Bill was retired from the United States Army. During his career he received the National Defense Service Medal, 4 Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Service Medal and Senior Explosive Ordnance Disposal. He served in the Secret Service for President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Following his retirement from the Military he worked as an Explosive Specialist with Expro. He was a member of the American Legion Post 325 in Flatwoods and the V.F.W. in Kenova. He was an avid fisherman, Lapidariast and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include two daughters, Scarlett Meadows of Wexford, PA, and Crystal Meadows of Columbus, OH; step son, Thomas Borchers; sisters, Patricia (Jack) Young of Ashland, Connie (Andy) Ghiglieri of Oviedo, FL, and Bonita Meadows of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Bryant Cathey, Zachary Grubb, Aria Rice, Victoria Hill and William Hill; two great grandchildren, Lea Lizarraga and Elizabeth Meadows; and a great grandchild due in April.
Military graveside honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North East.
Visitation will be from Noon until 1 p.m. Monday, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Disabled Veterans.
