PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. - Norman E. Hobbs, 89, formerly of Eldred, passed away on Thursday (May 17, 2018) at Olean General Hospital, following an apparent heart attack.

Born on Jan. 28, 1929, in Follansbee, W.V., he was a son of Albert and Hazel Hall Hobbs. On July 12, 1950, in Port Allegany, he married Betty Lushbaugh, who passed away on March 21, 2016.

He attended Port Allegany area schools, and had resided in Eldred before moving to Port Allegany.

Norm was a veteran of the Korean War, having served on the USS Midway aircraft carrier, as a gunners mate.

Norm had been employed at the Pittsburgh-Corning Co. in Port Allegany for 13 years, and later was employed by North Penn Gas Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Port Allegany American Legion Post No. 258; life member of the Star Hose Co. of Port Allegany; the Port Allegany Moose Lodge No.460; vice president of the Fairview Cemetery Association; and a member of the Little Red Diner Round Table.

Norm loved mowing and taking care of his lawn and keeping his car clean. He also enjoyed his sweets, donuts and pies, bird watching, and years ago he enjoyed dancing with Betty and gardening.

Surviving are three sons, Gary (Donna) Hobbs of Eldred, Dennis (Cathy) Hobbs of Sevierville, Tenn., and David (Karen) Hobbs of Port Allegany; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Marie) Hobbs of Port Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Norm was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Hobbs; and two sisters, Mary Frances Smith and Dorothy Niles.

Full military honors will be presented by the Port Allegany American Legion Post Honor Guard. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Port Allegany.
