Caroline Ernestine Augustine Rudolph was born circa 1809, daughter of Georg Rudolph in Braetz, Meseritz Posen, formerly in Prussia, now Brojce, Poland. She married Johann Samuel Dalchau, son of Gottfried Dalchau in Braetz on September 25, 1834. There they had at least seven children, Wilhelm Walther (b. 20 Apr 1836), Friedrich Heinrich Waldemar (12 Dec 1837 - 8 Jan 1838), Carolina Emma Augusta (Jun 1838 - 7 May 1892), Wilhelm F. (1840-11 Aug 1862), Sophia Emilie (16 May 1842 - 28 Jun 1842) and Eduard Adolph (1845-18 Jan 1879), who was christened in Braetz on June 13, 1845. The Johann Samuel Dalchau family is recorded as arriving in Galveston, Texas on the ship Ammerland on December 10, 1854. No record of Caroline has ever been found in Germany or Texas after June 13 1845. Her husband, Johann Samuel Dalchau was married to Charlotte C. Bauer Froehner, a widow with four children on October 8, 1859 in Round Top, Fayette County, Texas by Reverend T. G. Lieb, pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and her daughter Caroline Emma Auguste married Johann Jacob Dietrich on October 23, 1859 in Round Top, also by Reverend Lieb. While some have speculated that Caroline died after her arrival in Texas and was buried in the Grassyville, Bastrop County, Texas cemetery, Caroline would have had to have died between December 10, 1854 and well before October 8, 1859, a period of time when Grassyville did not yet exist. As the Dalchau family was obviously attending the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top, if Caroline did not die in Germany, at sea or prior to their arrival in the Fayette-Lee counties area, she is most likely buried in this cemetery.
