A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 PM in Pinewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Meshaw officiating.
A lifelong resident of Pitt County, Mr. Hardee was born on January 31, 1943 to the late James Lewis Hardee and Marie Haddock Hardee. He was a graduate of Grimesland High School, class of 1962. For more than 29 years he worked for E.I. Dupont and following his retirement was employed with Greenville Marine.
Mr. Hardee was a longtime member of Grace Church and only in the last few years was he unable to attend due to his declining health.
Mr. Hardee was an avid fisherman who spent many days on the water with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed greatly by the many who knew and loved him.
He is survived by: wife of 54 years, Shirley Wiggins Hardee; son, James Lewis Hardee, III; daughter, Brenda Hardee Mills; grandchildren, Sheryl Shepheard, McKenzie Mills, and Brighton Mills; great-grandson, Spencer Jones; all of Greenville; brothers, William Clyde "Billy" Hardee and wife, Debbie, of Canton, Mississippi and Dan Roger Hardee of Greenville.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
