After high school she attended Randolph-Macon and Mississippi Southern (now the University of Southern Mississippi) where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Jean was an Interior Designer and was extremely talented in that field. She was also a licensed Realtor and enjoyed that vocation very much. She loved to cook, play bridge, travel and participated in community activities.
She was an active member of the Four Seasons Garden Club of Hattiesburg. Jean had a talent for arranging flowers both in her home and in her garden. She considered herself fortunate when she met the love of her life, Richard Gale York. She assisted him in his business endeavors. They were a dynamic team. They were members of The Hattiesburg Country Club and Main Street United Methodist Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Betty Scovill and her son Charlie.
She is survived by her husband, Gale York, her son, Jack Lanning and daughter in law Mary, her step son Michael Gale York and her loving sister Charlene Singleton. Grandchildren, Alexis and Ava Lanning.
A visitation will be held in her honor from 9:30:00AM -11AM Saturday, October 27th followed by her funeral at 11:00. All services will be held at Main Street United Methodist Church, 712 Main Street, Hattiesburg, MS.
Interment will follow at Roseland Park Cemetery.
