In 1855 Charles Buxbaum was a 30 year old bartender in Albany New York. He enlisted in Company E of the 75th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment on September 6 1861 in Philadelphia. At the time of enlistment he was 36 years old and a weaver by trade, standing 5'5" tall with light complexion, gray eyes, and light hair. He was wounded on July 1, 1863 at Getysburg, engaged with the regiment North of town near Barlow's Knoll and presumed mortally wounded. Interestingly, he has a mortal wound or KIA star next to his name on the Pennsylvania State Memorial Plaque for the 75th Regiment at Gettysburg, although he did not die from his wounds if he received any. He was captured at Franklin Tennessee with the bulk of Company E of the 75th Pennsylvania and held in captivity in Andersonville POW camp in Georgia until he was released April 28 1865 (place not stated). He reenlisted in Chattanooga TN on January 1, 1864 and he was discharged from service on June 5, 1865. His whereabouts after June 5 1865 are not known. He likely returned to New York.
