Son of Otto & Ottelia (Gladbach) Conrad.
He attended St. Michael's School in Fairbury and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1935. Jack eloped with Virginia Shane on November 21, 1940, as they were married in Manhattan, Kansas. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force on December 5, 1943, and flew 47 missions as a B-24 pilot in the China Burma Theatre. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Three Air Medals, and other citations before his honorable discharge on June 5, 1945.

Jack spent his lifetime working in the automobile business first with Riley Motor Company in Fairbury and then with Rogers Riley Motor Company in Columbus beginning in 1973. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golf, collecting logo golf balls, wood working, and was well known around Columbus for his garage sale savvy. Jack cherished his time with his regular coffee gang.
