Ms. Darlene Greene departed this life on Monday, April 18, 2011. After a short-term battle with cancer. Ms. Darlene Greene was born September 2, 1945 in Chicago, IL. The daughter of Earnest Greene and Mary Greene. She was raised between Hartford, MI and Gary, IN. She accepted Christ at an early age and later became a member of The Galilee Baptist Church. She later moved to Kalamazoo, MI where she then resided and established her life until her passing. Darlene graduated from Covert High School in 1963 and continued her education at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where she studied in the Community Service Assistant Program, as well as receiving a Nurse's Assistant Certification. Darlene was employed through Kalamazoo Public Schools, where she worked as a Teacher's Assistant. She was also employed at several nursing homes throughout Kalamazoo. Darlene highly valued her family unity. She enjoyed cooking especially on sundays, where she would make large family dinners. Darlene had a huge heart, and she would help anyone who was in need. She was well-liked and admired by many. Darlene loved to travel and go to see movies and plays. You could always catch her singing, dancing and listening to what she called, "Oldies but Goodies'. You could always count on Darlene for her true and honest words of wisdom. Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Greene and also her son, Keith Greene. Darlene leaves to cherish her precious memories: 2 daughters, Denise Green of Kalamazoo, MI and Melanie (Victor) Patton of Joliet, IL; 1 sister, Anna (Autrey) Wright of Detroit, MI; her grandchildren: Corcelia, Ketih Jr., Radeese, Antonio, Tylay, Keevin, Laikeya all of Kalamazoo, MI; Chase and Symone of Joliet, IL; Keithin, Kourtney, Tierra, and Malik all of Columbus, OH; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 special sisters, Debra Peterson of Kalamazoo, MI; Linda Johnson of Holland, MI; and Maria Singer of Detroit, MI; 1 best friend, Luanne Williams; special friend, Jim Horton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends whom she will forever hold near and dear to her heart.
