Douglas "Buck" Gilbert was born July 11, 1937 in Blyville, Arkansas to Charlie Gilbert and Emma Rhee Boowie who preceded him in death. He was the fourth child of five sibling: Charles, Lavern, Barnie and Doris who also preceded him in death. He was loving and devoted father, uncle, brother, cousin and friend He enjoyed fishing and shooting pool. Douglas loved and cherished his family.

Douglas accepted Christ at an early age, and was a strong believer and who watched Rev. Price on TV every Sunday. Douglas received his education in Arkansas Public Schools. He was employed with Midway Trucking until he retired. On March 3, 1956, Douglas married Janice Blackman, and to this union there were four children: James "Jimmy", Dana, Stacey and Douglas "Lee" Gilbert, whom preceded him in death.

In 1961, Douglas met his special companion Sandra Williams Gilbert and spent 30 wonderful years of his life. Douglas was a special father figure to Sandra's one and only son, David Williams, who preceded him in death.

Douglas was called home on Thursday, October 18, 2012. Douglas leaves to cherish his memories: 5 children: James "Jimmy" Gilbert, Derrick Gilbert, Michael "Mike Mike" Whitehead-Gilbert all of Detroit, MI; Dana and Stacey Gilbert both of Los Angeles, California; 15 grandchildren, Lanika (Ricky), James "Jay", Shaundra, Tameka, Latisha, Charraine, Michael JR, Malik, Marquis, Makhia, and Kiara all of Detroit; Jaquelin, Brandon, Corey, Dalishia, and Arthur all of Los Angeles, California; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also, one special niece Catherine Gilbert-Combs.
