                         OBITUARY
Beale—
John Fleming Beale was born at Earlville, Ill., May 5, 1858; died April 10, 1922, at his home 4 miles west of Powhattan of apoplexy. He is survived by an only son, Leroy Edwards, 2 brothers, George L., of Mankato, Frank, of Hiawatha.
He came to Kansas in 1872, grew to manhood in the vicinity of Hamlin and Hiawatha. He was married Feb. 10, 1886, to Phoebe Edwards. Mrs. Phoebe Beale departed this life Sept. 20, 1888, being survived by the husband and only son, Leroy. He later married Julia Etta Edwards, who died May 10, 1916. After her death Mr. Beale resided on his farm with his only son until the time of his departure. He is to be commended for his noble, manly life which is attested to by his intimate friends. His loyalty during those strenuous years of 1917 and 1918 are never to be forgotten for he labored earnestly and carried on extensive farm work not for gain but as his bit toward winning the World war.
In early childhood he was confirmed in the Presbyterian church. Tho not a member of any church in this community he was a conscientious believer in the faith as the Lord so wished.
Funeral services were held in the Christian church at Powhattan conducted by Rev. T. V. Hubbell. A quartet composed of Allen and Hal McCrerey, Mrs. Mary Smith, Miss Della Hall provided the music. Body bearers were J. F. Bartley, John Williams, R. L. Palmer, G. L. Hansen, Emerson Roush, Fred Krebs. Interment was made in the Hamlin cemetery.
