Born in New York, NY on February 5, 1930, Jane was the daughter of William and Theresa O'Shaughnessy Tyler. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on February 2, 1949 and received the name Sister William Therese. She professed her first vows in 1950 and her final vows in 1955.
Sister Jane received her BS in Elementary Education from Fordham University, Bronx, NY, 1957; her MS in Business Education from Hunter College, New York, NY, 1976 and a MS in Computer Science from Iona College, New Rochelle, New York, 1989.
During her more than fifty-six years in the Ministry of Education, Sister Jane Tyler served in the Archdiocese of New York at St. Brendan School; Bronx, NY (1950-1953) St. Rita School, Bronx, NY (1953-1959) before going to the Brooklyn Diocese serving in St. Teresa School, Woodside, NY (1959-1966). Sr. Jane returned to the New York Archdiocese to St. Ann School (1967-1968); St. Vito School, Mamaroneck, NY (1968-1969). For the next thirty-seven years, Sister Jane ministered at Msgr. Scanlan High School; Bronx, NY (1969-2006) as a business and computer studies teacher before becoming the General Manager at Park Avenue Thorpe, Bronx, NY (2006-2011). In 2018, Sister Jane retired to Dominican Convent.
Sister Jane Tyler is predeceased by her parents William and Theresa O'Shaughnessy Tyler and her sister Theresa McBride. She is survived by her sister, Mary Tyler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill, NY on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation is on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Dominican Convent, 175 Route 340, Sparkill, NY. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Arrangements are by Higgins Funeral Home.
