Allerton--Col. A. B. Allerton died at his home near Hamlin, Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6 p. m. He was 81 years, 8 months and 21 days old. He leaves a son, A. G. Allerton, of Hamlin, and one daughter, Mrs. Jenks, who lived with her father. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Burial was made in the Hamlin cemetery. Mr. Allerton was born in Euclid, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1831. He was raised and lived at Lake Mills, Jefferson county, Wis., until 1879, farming and carpentering. He moved to Brown county in 1879 locating where he died, on the west line of Hamlin township. He was a great horse fancier and nearly always had a fine specimen or two in his stables. He was married Sept 8, 1862, to Ellen P. Palmer, whose writings made her famous as the author of "The Walls of Corn," and whose death occurred Aug. 31, 1903[sic]. Mr. Allerton often wrote articles for the newspapers, also. He was a kindly man, a good neighbor and citizen.

"...The many friends of Grandpa Allerton were very sorry to hear the sad news of his death which occurred Saturday, Nov. 9. While it was known he was in failing health, yet none thought he was so near death's door. The funeral was held from his home Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 1 o'clock conducted by Rev. Mr. Carpenter, of Hiawatha. Burial was made in Hamlin cemetery by the side of his wife who had preceded him some 19 years. ..."
