John M. Martin, 79, of Flora, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, in Harter Township in Clay County.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. There will also be visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora.
Mr. Martin was bom on February 26, 1924, in Flora, the son of John M. Sr. and Willie May (Horsefield) Martin. He married Carolyn J. Mayo on January 16, 1954, in Flora. She survives.
He was owner-operator of Martin Printing in Flora for 60 years. He was a member of the Methodist faith. He was a member of Experimental Aircraft Association, Flora Fun Flyers, Flora Elks Lodge, Flora Chamber of Commerce, AQPA, NRA and AMA. He was past chairman and board member of Flora Airport Authority and past Flora Businessman of the Year. He enjoyed flying, woodworking, arts and his cats and dogs.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Carolyn Martin, of Flora; two sons, Gary D. Martin, of Flora, and Larry S.
Martin and his wife, Angela, of Flora; five daughters, Nancy Lagle and her husband, Carol, of Flora, Carolyn Byars, of Nashville, Tenn., Vicki Burkett, of Flora, Suzanne Acree, of Flora, and Teresa Anne Martin, of Flora; and 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, a brother and a sister.
