Gary W. Stanford, 85, of Chetek, formerly of Chippewa Falls, passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 19, 2018, at home.
Gary was born September 23, 1933 in Eau Claire to Ethel Stanford Fouke.
He spent part of his childhood in Chicago before moving back to Eau Claire. Gary enlisted in the military and served his country in the United States Navy on the U.S.S Hancock from 1952 to 1956.
He married Sandra Toy on May 30, 1959 in Eau Claire.
Gary worked for Pope and Talbot (Cascade) for 38 years, retiring on September 23, 1995.
Gary and Sandie remodeled their cabin into a year round home where they enjoyed 14 years of retirement. He loved his family, fishing, baking cookies for his grandkids, and his lawn.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, Abbie and Kitty Girnau; and Aunt Blanche Stanford.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel. 535 Hillcrest Parkway Altoona, Wi. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment at Resthaven Cemetery in Eau Claire.
Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona is assisting the family with arrangements.
