Lydia was the 5th of 11 children of Jacob and Hannah Yerigan. She came with her family from Ohio to Indiana about 1837.
She married March 21, 1848, in Frankfort, Indiana, Elihu Short.
Elihu was a farmer. He appears in the 1860 census of Owens Township, Clinton County, Indiana, but in 1870 and 1880 in Chickasaw, Iowa. His widow also appears in Chickasaw in 1900.
