GREENVILLE - Mr. Mac Monon James, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center.

The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 11AM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel with Rev. E.T. Vincent officiating. Entombment will follow in the Pinewood Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A native and lifelong resident of Pitt County, Mac was born to Zeno and Mille Leggett James. He was a graduate of Stokes High School, class of 1953. He served in the US Army as tanker and was honorably discharged. He began a career with Allstate in 1967 and worked for over 40 years in the insurance business. He served in Greenville Optimist Club for many years and was a long term member of Oakmont Baptist Church. Mac worked as an Insurance Agent owning the James Agency representing Allstate for 23 years before his son Phillip took over ownership in 2000. He remained in the business assisting Phillip before retiring in 2016. Currently he was enjoying being a driver for Greenville Auto Auction.

Mac was preceded in death by his father, Robert Zeno James and mother, Delzora James; sisters, Louise Taylor, Lillian Tripp Wall, Mildred Smith, and Dare Williams; Brothers, William James, Ervin James, Fred James, and Leroy James.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Odom James; Daughter, Amy Janning and husband, Joey, of Goldsboro, NC; Grandchildren, Alayna, Will, and Wyatt Janning; Son, Phillip James of Greenville; Sisters, Muriel Mobley; Brother, Dr. Douglas M. James and wife, Ann; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
