Harry Leroy Burns Jr., 92, died May 23, 2018 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Ft. Dodge. He was born on January 27, 1926 at Dodge City, the son of Harry L. Burns, Sr. and Ellen (Konward) Burns.
Harry grew up in Dodge City and was a graduate of Dodge City High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre as a First Class Motor Machinist. Harry worked for the telephone company after his military discharge. His passion was Harley Davidson motorcycles and rode actively until he was 68 years old. Harry also enjoyed flying radio controlled model airplanes and boats.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City and the V.F.W.
Harry is survived by caretakers, Lyle and LaWana VanNahmen of Spearville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mike Burns, and sister, Mary Alice Burns.
Graveside service will be held at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, Ft. Dodge on Friday June 1, 2018 at 9:00 AM. Military rites will be provided by Navy Military Honors and Charles Earnest Scott Post #47, American Legion. Memorials are suggested to the Ford County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
