Ruth Helen Hill, 100, died on Friday afternoon, October 19, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center. Funeral services at the United Presbyterian Church, in Newton. Burial in the Palo Alto Cemetery, rural Newton.

Ruth was born on October 6, 1918, in Heyworth, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Winchell) Ryburn. She graduated from Heyworth High School in 1936. She finished her Bachelor's degree at Illinois State University in 1939 and then taught a few years in Illinois and Wisconsin. She completed her Master's degree and she was working on her PhD at the University of Illinois when she met her future husband, Eugene M. Hill of Newton in 1946. They were married November 28, 1946.

Ruth served the Newton community for 24 years, teaching English and Latin at Central Junior High, Berg Junior High, and at Newton Senior High from 1962 to 1986.

The true center of Ruth's life was her family. She lovingly cared for her children and supported them through good days and bad. She looked forward to and enjoyed every family visit.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Hill, and her first son, David E. Hill of Davenport, Iowa, and her brothers, Paul and Harold Ryburn.

Surviving are her children, Robert A. Hill of Tabor, South Dakota, Patricia R. Hill of Middletown, Connecticut, Kathleen M. Andreae of Wellington, New Zealand, and John C. Hill of San Francisco, California; her grandchildren, Christopher Andreae of Tokyo, Japan, Helen Andreae of Wellington, New Zealand, and Amanda Klause of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her sister, Marjorie Ann (Robert) Smith of Normal, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
