Robert Anton Peachey was born Robert Anton Pecci, changing his surname as a young adult. He attended and graduated from the former Newark Technical School (New Jersey Institute of Technology) with a BSCE degree in Civil Engineering in 1930. He became registered in NJ as a Professional Engineer, Professional Land Surveyor and Professional Land Planner. After stints working for the U.S. Navy at the Bayonne Shipyard during WWII and as a building inspector, he moved to Englewood, NJ where he was employed by the City of Englewood for the remainder of his career in a number of capacities. Beginning in 1942 as a Cost Engineer, he was promoted to Sr. Civil Engineer in 1947 and appointed Assistant City Engineer in 1959. He was appointed by the Mayor and Council to the highest office of City Engineer in Jan. 1965 after serving a year in that position in a temporary role. He also served on the Planning Board as member and Secretary. Retiring shortly before he passed, he was diagnosed with leukemia within a year before succumbing to it in 1970.

He was interred 3 days after his passing in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange, NJ in the Pecci family plot, but was exhumed and re-interred next to his son Robert M. Peachey in Rockland Cemetery a year later.
