Nina D. Wood died January 15, 2012 at her home in Lebanon, NH. Nina Wood was born February 23, 1922 in New York City, NY; the daughter of Samuel Sloan and Mary Ballard Duryee,

She graduated from the Chapin School in New York City and then Smith College in 1944. During WWII she worked for the U.S. Naval Intelligence Office of Censorship until the war ended and then worked for the Association for American Indian Affairs for four years. She later studied at the Bank Street College for Education, subsequently teaching reading and writing for young, public school students in New York City and New Haven, CT.

She married Dr. Harrison F. Wood in 1952 and they had two sons, Stephen and Matthew.

Nina was active in the New Haven community for thirty years, particularly with fundraising and chairing community organizations concerned with families of prisoners, the elderly, and for the New Haven Food Coop. Nina was a student of astrology for more than thirty years, loved writing poetry, loved nature, animals (especially cats), vacationing on Chebeague island, ME and a good game of bridge.

After the death of Harrison Wood in 1991, Nina married Robert P. Ericson and moved to the Upper Valley, first living in Norwich, VT, and then, after Robert’s death in 2000, in White River Junction, VT. She made her home at Harvest Hill in Lebanon, NH since 2006. She was predeceased also by her brother Samuel.

In addition to her two sons, she is survived by three stepchildren: Peter Ericson, David Ericson and Martha Demers.
