Mary Louise Harlow, faithful, abiding, generous. Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and long time resident of Tucson. Died September 17, 2000 at the age of 92. Born October 15, 1908 in Duluth, MN to Louise Bingham Coventry and Dr. William A. Coventry. She was married to John M. Harlow for 37 years until his death in 1976. Mary Louise attended Carleton College, graduated from the University of MN in 1930, where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She taught art at Franklin Junior High School in Duluth from 1931-1934. During that time, she took a sabbatical from teaching and worked in New York City, for a fabric design business as a graphic designer. She was an active member of the Junior League of Duluth. In 1937 she married John Miller Harlow. In 1939 they moved to Tucson and established J. M. Harlow, Landscape Architect, now known as Harlow Gardens, She lived in the home they built on Calle Ensenada for 54 years and was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years. Her special interests included Girl Scouts of America , PTA and Meals on Wheels. She found particular sustenance in her artistic abilities working as a professional floral designer for 15 years and in her traveling and painting her observations in oils. Her brothers and sister predeceased her. Dr. William Coventry, Dr. Mark Coventry and Barbara Coventry Norton. Her sons, William (Marion) and John, Jr., of Tucson and daughters Rebecca Harlow (Fred) Potter of San Gabriel, CA and Julia Harlow (Tom) Valeski of Boulder, CO survive her. She had special relationships with her 10 grandchildren: Stephen Copley, Brad Copley, Deborah Copley Outcalt. William R. Harlow, Judson Valeski, Ashley Valeski, Elizabeth Potter Sanders. Alan Potter, John C. Harlow and Jennifer Harlow Day. Nine great-grandchildren survive her. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30 at 4 p.m. at Rincon Congregational Church, 122 N. Craycroft.
