Mrs. Auchincloss was the widow of Joseph Howland Auchincloss, a partner hi the law firm of Davis, Polk & Wardwell, who died in 1968.

She attended Miss Chapin's School and Barnard College.

From 1925 to 1910, Mrs. Auchincloss was a member of the board of managers of the Hunter‐Bellevue School of Nursing and had served as its president and vice president. After 1990, she was an honorary manager.

In 1946, she helped organize the Women's Committee to Strengthen the Protestant Chaplaincy Service at Bellevue. She had also been on the board of the Maria Bowen Chapin Foundation and was a member of the Colony Club.
