Gwen Adams Peel
Gwen was born April 15, 1927 in La Grande, Oregon to George Rudolf Adams and Mary Caroline Worthington Adams. Gwen's family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when Gwen was one and a half years old.
She had an infant brother, half-brother George Verne Adams, and a half-sister LaVon Adams Mons.
She married Earl Peel on May 13, 1944. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1948 together with their daughter Claudia.
In 2011 Gwen wrote concerning her testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, "I know this Church is true without a shadow of a doubt. I know Jesus is the Christ and that he gave his life for all of us. I am thankful to have been active and (held many) jobs in various organizations in The Church. They truly made me grow spiritually and made me appreciate all that we have and all that we are. I am grateful for Earl and our wonderful family and love them so much."
Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. They all adored her and spent many hours playing games with her around any table available. She loved to get the family together for dinners and camping trips. Gwen also enjoyed improving her computer skills, compiling family histories and researching her pioneer ancestors. She painstakingly took and organized photos of family activities and trips.
Due to Gwen's hard work, their yard was always well trimmed and a showcase of beautiful flowers (albeit plastic flowers in her later years). She carried on the art of beautiful hand and machine sewing skills from her Mother. She also made delightful crochet projects, and painted ceramics as gifts for her family and friends.
Gwen stayed at home most of their daughters' childhood years. Later she worked at LDS Hospital Credit Union, the Sewing Machine Department at J.C. Penny, and retired from the Granite Teachers Credit Union.
She took devoted and loving care of Earl through various health issues beginning in 1999 (due to cancer surgery) and continued through the last 17 years of his life.
Gwen is survived by her daughters: Claudia Lynne (Ross) Jones of Taylorsville, Utah and Suzanne (Rowland) Felt of Idaho Falls, Idaho, her grandchildren Karen (John) Sorensen, Sean (Julie) Jones, Jeremy (Robyn) Jones, Debra (Douglas) Merrill, Michael (Alisa) Jones, Ben Jones, Sam (Cali) Robison, Catherine (Kevin) Cook, 20 great-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Peel, her parents, brother, step-sister, step-brother, nephews, grandson and great-granddaughter.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the many wonderful caregivers at OneCare Home Health and Hospice and Right at Home Health which allowed her to remain in her home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the charities of their choice.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Valley View Memorial Park.
