GIRARD — William C. Cope, 58, passed away surrounded by his family, Thursday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2018, at University Hospital of Cleveland.

“Chris” as he was known, was born July 24, 1960, in Warren, a son of William Howard Taft and Katherine Lee McCusker Cope.

He was a 1978 graduate of Champion High School and was employed as a construction worker for Neff Rentals in Warren for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Chris married the former Lori L. Thomas on July 30, 2004. They shared 14 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and rooting for the Cleveland Browns. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, whom he dearly loved.

Besides his wife, Chris is survived by three children, Tabatha (Jeffry) Walker of Bazetta, Amy (Derek Ripple) Cope of Warren and William “Brian” (Taylor Shuto) Cope of Niles; two stepchildren, Tina Marie Sumner of Mineral Ridge and Kevin Sumner of Niles; five siblings, Mary Ellen (Mike) Dyson of West Farmington, Theresa (John) Leeper of Manassas, Va., and Lori (Carl) Karafa, Patrick Cope and Kelly Carcanas, all of Champion; five grandchildren, Saralyn, Alexander, Chelsea, Aspen and Nico; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher N. Cope; a brother, John Cope; and a sister, LeeAnn Packman.

Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren, with Pastor James Kyle Sr. officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services, 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to a GoFundMe account that they will be establishing in Chris’ memory.
