Born to the union of Cecilia Mary Proaps and Frank Elvin McAtee. She was the youngest of 8 children. When she was six the family moved to Carmichael, California. She attended San Juan Union High School in Fair Oaks. She married George Peck in 1948 and was the mother of three boys, Danny, Stanley and Randy. She was employed for 30 years by Pacific Bell Telephone. After her divorce from George, she married George Elderkin. They enjoyed many years together until his death. In 2016 she married Bud Cothrin.
