JoAnn Rodgers Lee

Her earthy pilgrimage began when she was born Jo Ann Rodgers on December 2, 1955, in Mart, Texas, Beatrice (Harris) Rodgers. She was the second of six children in blessing to that holy union and reared in a home filled with knowledge of God and the warmth of her family's love. Her mother and father were both strict, but loving parents and their nurturing wisdom and strength guided the family well. Even though times were difficult and there were many challenges growing up during the height of "Jim Crow" laws and racial segregation, her parent's faith in God's provision, protection, and preservation always saw them through.

Jo Ann received her formal education in the Mart ISD, and she graduated from Mart High School in 1975. After graduation, she pursued her education at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. It was early in her life during her formative years that JoAnn was taught by her father and mother to trust in the Lord. They taught her that you could depend on God and that if you stood on his Word, He would never fail you, whether in sickness, tribulations, the Lord would see you through. She learned early on the essential principles and values of hard work, integrity, and responsibility that would later shape her own adult life and ministry.

At the age of five years old JoAnn heard and believed the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Mart under the leadership of the late Reverend Williams. She participated in many captives of the Church, including the Youth Choir, Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School, and Baptist Training .

In 1978 she relocated to Waco, Texas, and united with the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Vonzell Baucham Sr. and became a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School and Mission. At the time of her demise she still held her membership at the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend Melvin A. Petty where she served in the Sanctuary Gospel Choir, Sunday School, Mission, and Nursing Staff.

Indeed time and space does not allow today for a thought recital of her life's milestones and achievements in this abridged accounting, neither could it be possible to tell all the many joys and wonders of her long and blessed life. She still held her same testimony of faith "I thank and praise the Lord when things are going well and I thank and praise the Lord when things are not going well. I thank and praise the Lord for all things". Despite the physical challenges that later confronted her health, JoAnn never gave up, but grounded her faith in God whom she had served, loved, worshipped, and trusted all her life. She will be missed but the strength of her eternal spirit will remain with us forever. Now we must say "Farewell" to our beloved. Sleep on now, take your rest! It's been a long day and we must say "Good night" but we will see you in the morning.

She was determined to keep the faith believing that God Never Fails while letting the world know I am Redeemed therefore, I will trust in the Lord Continuously, I declared that Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow; because When You Have Faith in God one day we will Rise Up and Walk! It's Just Good to Know the Lord for he is the only one who can speak Peace Be Still and even the winds and the ways will obey his will.

And so it was on October 10, 2018, JoAnn beheld the glorious light of her Saviour's countenance as He beckoned to her from the other side of that distant shore, inviting her to lay down her sword and shield and study war no more. She hastened quickly into His Loving arms, there to find sweet rest as she transitioned from labor to reward, and in a moment and twinkling of an eye (just that quick) she was absent from the body and present with the Lord. Thanks God! No more suffering, no more pain. Heaven is a Prepared Place for Prepared People. She now has "A Better View".

She leaves to celebrate and await her resurrection, an extremely devoted and faithful son, a loving daughter, five sisters, one brother, her ABC boys, her God-Mother, five God-daughters and a host of family and friends.

Arrangement by McDowell Funeral home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

The Celebratory Farewell will commence at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
