GIRARD - Dr. Richard M. Cannon, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at his residence.

Dick was born July 17, 1934, in Youngstown, the son of Martin and Marjorie (Archibald) Cannon.

He was a 1952 graduate of Girard High School, a 1956 graduate of Mt. Union College and graduated from Ohio State Dental School in 1960.

Dick opened his dental office in 1962, in Girard, and retired, in 1997, after 35 years. He was a former member of the Corydon Palmer Dental Society, the Elks Lodge, in Girard, and an honorary member of the IFH. He was inducted into the Girard Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Dick’s greatest passion was golfing. He had belonged to the Penn-Ohio golf league and the men’s bowling league for Kay Lanes, for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Mark T. (Robin) Cannon, of Bucyrus; his daughter, Susan L. (fiancé Keven Smith), of Howland; and his grandchildren, Jessica L. Cannon, Rachel A. Cannon, Jacob L. Taylor and Natalie E. Taylor.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Dunkle) Cannon, who died Oct. 13, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, 11:30 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where the family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Dick will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery, next to his wife.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
