Sarah Jane (Rogers) Herring, 83, received her eternal reward October 18, 2018, with family by her side. The daughter of George H. and Ruby M. Rogers, Sarah Jane was born in Wabash County on January 26, 1935, and grew up in Swayzee. When Sarah was six months old, her mother, Ruby Marie, died. So, Sarah was raised by her father and step-mother, Nobia, along with six siblings. On August 16, 1952, Sarah married her high school sweetheart, Ronald E. Herring, who survives. They had two children, Diana Grogg (husband, Joe) and Brian (wife, Holly Lake).

Sarah, an incredible woman of faith, served alongside her husband in pastoring five churches in Indiana as well as four years on the mission field totaling 60+ years. She was always willing to share her faith and humor with various groups of women. She was a talented organist and pianist, as well as a Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed entertaining and serving others.

Sarah was a well-respected educator, teaching elementary and middle school in the Marion Community Schools for 37 years. She served as Head Start Education Coordinator and adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University. Her passion for children and young adult literature was contagious and influenced the lives of the students she taught.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and faith community. Her spirit will live on through her influence in the lives of her husband, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Additional survivors include 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Phil (wife, Nelva); step-sisters, Lettie and Connie; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Ruby Rogers; step-mother, Nobia Rogers; son, Brian (who passed away in May of 1993); brother, Richard Rogers; sister-in-law, Nancy Rogers; and step-siblings, Peggy and Ted.

The family will receive visitors October 21, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services October 22, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Tim McClellan officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Marion.
