Paul W. Zander, age 96, of Portage passed away Friday October 19, 2018 at the Symphony Health Care of Chesterton. Paul was born December 21, 1921 in Hobart, Indiana to the late Paul “Bill” and Lydia Zander.

Paul was a WWII Army Veteran. He retired from Wilbert Vault Company when he reached the age of 70 years. Paul was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gary where he served as an usher for many years.

Paul is survived by two children, Paul Zander, Jr. and Romona Pickford; six grandchildren, Robby McCaughey, Ruth Ann McCaughey, Kelly Horvath, Paul Zander III, Eric (Melissa) Pickford and Jody (Ryan) Thomson; great grandchildren, Samantha, Ben, Nick and Noel; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ruth Scharbach Zander; his daughter, Harmony Dimitroff; two brothers, Warren and Walter; and two sisters, Marian Scharbach and Jean Davis.
