Birth record gives name as Helen but she went by Ellen throughout her life. She was the daughter of Jacob W. Seeley and Nancy Owens. Her family resided in Edmunds and Dennysville and Ellen was one of 10 children. She was 7 yrs old with her parents in 1880 in Edmunds. Also in the home was her grandmother Deborah (Cox) Owens.

Ellen married George C. Gardner son of James Nathaniel Gardner and Lana Cambridge of Dennysville. They married March 27, 1889 in Edmunds and had three children: Diantha V., Hattie Mae, and Elsie V. The couple separated after the birth of Elsie. George resided with his brother and Ellen resided with her parents with youngest daughter Elsie.

Her daughter Diantha married Alvin H. Cox of Edmunds in 1907 and died at age 20 after the birth of her second child in 1911. She was buried in South Edmunds FaG # 155421809. Hattie Mae Gardner married Percy W. Wood of Machiasport in 1912 and resided there. Elsie married Clarence Chapais about 1912 and resided in Edmunds.

Ellen died at age 59 and was buried in Dennysville Village Cemetery. She has a small metal marker at her grave.
