His funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Veazey and Bro. Thomas Winchester to officiate. Burial will follow the service in Olive Branch Cemetery. Named as pallbearers are Ben Moore, Robert “Scooter” Miller, Kreg Kyle, Fred Stier, Brandon French, and Mark Wilkerson; honorary pallbearers, Kenneth Moore, David Arnold, Houston Bass, Vester Brown, and Jim Hampton. Visitation is scheduled at McEvoy on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday after 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
Nelson White was born on February 14, 1921 near the community of Millsfield, Dyer County, Tennessee to the late Charlie Hodge White and the late Annie Roberts White. He married Edith Hogue White on December 7, 1940 and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2015.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Cheek of Paris; son, Glenn White of Tennessee; sisters, Bettie Woods of Newbern, Tennessee and Joy Turner of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Tracy Dunlap and Suzanne (Mark) Wilkerson; great grandchildren, Lesley (Brian) McKeon, Jessica (Brandon) French, and Rachael Dunlap; great great granddaughter, Harley Sypin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Nelson is also preceded by daughter in law, Judy White; sisters, Syble Sipes and Sara White; brothers: Charles Leonard White, Russell White, and Joe White; and grandson, Vic White.
Mr. White moved his family to Cottage Grove in 1952. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of Union Friendship Baptist Church. Nelson bred and raised Black Angus cattle for many years.
