Bonnie Lavonne Mitchell, 94, of Spirit Lake passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Lakes Regional Healthcare.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. There will be a private family burial in the Lakeland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake.
Bonnie was born on April 8, 1924 in Stanhope, IA to Harold and Nettie Hagan. She graduated from high school in Webster City, IA. She was united in marriage to Donald Mitchell on June 3, 1946 in Troy, KS. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2006 in Spirit Lake. Bonnie worked as the manager for the Spirit Lake Liquor Store. She also opened and operated the first H&R Block in Spirit Lake.
Bonnie was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Spirit Lake. She enjoyed going to church and participating in Bible Study. In her younger days she taught and participated for 20 years in line dance. Her and Donald looked forward every year to spending their winters in Texas.
She is survived by her son Stan (Joyce) Mitchell of Fort Worth, TX; daughter Janis (Doug) Leiss of Milford; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
