MUSCATINE, Iowa - Reuben 'Peter' Thompson, 97, of Muscatine, died on Monday, July 11, 2011, at Carrington Place.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Betsey Neipert will officiate the service. Casket bearers will be Ed Lindle, Van Lindle, Ralph Danner, John Miller, Gary McKillip, and David Cooper. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.

'Peter' was born on October 10, 1913, at his parent's home on the Island, the son of William John and Blanche Steinman Thompson. He married Mary H. Woods on January 17, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2007.

He farmed in the Muscatine area most of his life and also raised angus cattle.

He liked to ride horses.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Brown and husband, Donald, of Muscatine; two granddaughters, Laura Wehmeyer and husband, Jeff, of Muscatine, and Wendy Brunk and husband, Jason, of Cambridge, Iowa; two great-granddaughters, Autumn Brunk and Joselyn Brunk; and one great-grandson, Reine Wehmeyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Roy and Ray; and four sisters, Lula, Grace, Edith, and Cecelia.
