Gene was a 1943 graduate of Antigo High School, graduated from Marquette University in 1953 with an Accounting Degree, and graduated with a law degree from Marquette Law School in 1956. During the summers he was in college, Gene worked for the Soo Railroad in Alaska. After graduation from Marquette Law School he went on a six-month bike tour of Europe. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1943 to July 1945 during WWII and during the Korean War from February 1951 to July 1951.
Gene was employed by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company from March of 1962 to March of 1967. He later was employed by US Bank as an attorney for the Trust Department of the bank from 1967 to January of 1989. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Oshkosh Country Club. Gene enjoyed snow skiing, traveling, and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife: Marcia Smith-Leslie of Oshkosh; two sons: Charles and Mia Leslie of Houston, Texas; Paul and Annette Leslie of Oshkosh; four grandsons: Griffin and Michael Leslie, Benjamin Schmidt, and Matthew Leslie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1020 W. 6th Ave., with Reverend Thomas Reynebeau officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and support will be held on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Gene's family would appreciate memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oshkosh Community Foundation or the Oshkosh YMCA.
