Ramona Faye Curry Roberts, 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life service will be at 11:00 a.m. on October 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jacob West, pastor, officiating, and Dr. Wallace Davis, former president of Wayland Baptist University, assisting.
A private family interment will be held after the service at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Directors.
Ramona Faye Curry was born November 24, 1929, in Plainview, Texas, to Samuel Eric and Faye Belle Marlin Curry. She was a 1947 graduate of Plainview High School where she was active in the PHS Band, and a 1949 graduate of Hockaday School for Girls in Dallas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Southern Methodist University in 1951.
She married her high school sweetheart, J.B. Roberts, March 24, 1951, at First Baptist Church of Plainview.
Although Mrs. Roberts was an active community leader and supporter, a generous philanthropist and historian, her true loves were her family and friends. She was proud of her family and was a true loving friend to many who loved her as she loved them. She also loved reading and had an extensive collection of books. She and her husband traveled the world, including many group trips with their Rotary friends.
An active community volunteer and civic worker, Mrs. Roberts was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. In addition, she was a member of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Division; Hale County Historical Society, Plains Art Association, Chapter CZ, P.E.O., Plainview Junior League, Gamma Delphin Study Club, Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni, Panhandle Plains Historical Society, Plainview Women’s Club, Wednesday Ladies Bridge Club, the Plainview Country Club and Rotary Ann of the Plainview Rotary Club.
Her dedication to her community was recognized in 1976 when she was named Plainview Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year and as Best Committee Chairman of the Texas Historical Commission in 1980.
She was the first chairman of the Main Street project in Plainview and a founding director of the Museum of the Llano Estacado.
She also served on the Hale County Bicentennial committee and was instrumental in compiling the book, "Plainview Homes and Families."
Mrs. Roberts was a historian who chronicled the families of Hale County in the archives of the Museum of the Llano Estacado as well as being an active member of numerous Texas and area historical associations. Included in that list are Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of Republic of Texas, Alamo Defenders Descendants Association, Daughters of American Colonists, Daughters of War of 1812, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Daughters of the Union 1861-1865, Continental Society Daughters of the Indian Wars, United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Also, five grandchildren; Jessica Ann Roberts Martinez and husband, Mark, of Lubbock; Rachel Victoria Roberts of Lubbock, John Garrett Estes and wife, Tammy, of Lubbock; Erica Faye Estes Pigg and husband, Jarret, of Turkey, Texas; and Joanna Brooke Estes Walden and husband, Charlie, of Aspermont. Eight Great Grandchildren: Sky Meredith Roberts, Isabella Lucia Martinez, Chloe Elizabeth Martinez, Madison Faye Pigg, Chance Clinton Pigg, Allie Belle Pigg, Charles Cole Walden II, and Carson Gage Estes.
Also surviving are a niece, Cynthia Ann Curry of Lubbock, and a nephew, Thomas Marlin Curry of Sandia Park, N.M.
Pallbearers will be Gene Arrington, Carl Bonds, Garrett Estes, Mark Martinez, Jarret Pigg and Charlie Walden.
Honorary pallbearers will be John T. Boyd, Mike Hutcherson, David Kopp, David Marshall, Larry May, Monte Monroe, Rex Ramsower, Rodney Watson and Bill Weaks.
