Roger E. Durant, 97, a lifelong Oshkosh resident until 2003, died peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2006, at ManorCare in Fond du Lac.
Roger was born on April 9, 1909, in Oak Center. He graduated from Marquette University with a Business Administration Degree in 1933. After graduation, he followed his dream and operated two neighborhood Durant Grocery stores in Oshkosh. Roger then was an accountant and business manager for an Oshkosh manufacturer until his retirement in 1974.
On June 3, 1940, he married Virginia C. Zeimet. They were life partners for 45 years until her death in October 1985.
Roger was the loving father of three children, Gail (Terry) Loker of Oshkosh, Nancy (Richard) Celichowski of Fond du Lac and Jeff Durant of Janesville; he was the beloved Papa and Great-Papa of Michele (the late Jeffrey) Blahnik and their daughter, Natalie, Scott and Michelle Loker and their Durant children, Mary and Ethan, Mike and Bridget Celichowski and their daughters, Qynn and Ashlyn, Steve and Stacy Celichowski and their sons, Camden and Chase, Mark Celichowski and his fiancee, Callie Byers, Drew Durant and Caleb Durant.
Roger was a former member of the Elks Club and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and a brother, Lyle Durant
The family would like to acknowledge the staffs of ManorCare in Fond du Lac and Sharehaven in Oshkosh for their loving care of Roger in his later years.
Private family services were held for Roger.
A memorial fund for the Alzheimer Association has been created per Roger's request
