SHANTZ, Helen Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at her residence, Nithview Community, New Hamburg. Helen was formerly of RR#2 Baden and was born 99 years ago on May 25, 1919 in Mannheim, Ontario, a daughter of the late Oliver and Joanna (Eby) Lichty. Helen was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church, Baden. Helen was a participant in managing the bakery in Baden as well as the family farm. Helen enjoyed wintering in Florida and was an avid bowler. She has left her family a legacy of care and love, which she freely shared with all whom she met. Helen is reunited with her husband Nyal Shantz who predeceased her on July 8, 2005 and her daughter Joanne Wideman who predeceased her December 28, 2017. Loving mother of Richard and Connie Shantz of Baden, Lorrie and Roger Baechler of New Hamburg, Pauline and Glenn Martin of Ayr, Michael and Linda Shantz of Baden and Cliff Wideman of St. Jacobs. Dear grandmother of Luke and Joanna Shantz, Lindsay and Scott Leis, Kevin Shantz and Kristy Ziegel, Amy and Mike Scott, Trevor and Jody Wideman, Melanie and Brandon Chilvers, Kelly and Adam Stoak, Carly Martin, Fraser and Kelitta Martin, Simon and Yvonne Martin, Aaron, Andrew and Katelyn Shantz and great-grandmother to Keira and Marrissa Shantz, Dylan, Lauren and Hudson Leis, Kai Scott, Kallie Wideman, Devin, Kaden and Tanner Chilvers, Simon and Kole Stoak and Izaac and Bryson Martin. Survived by her sister Norma Shantz and sister-in-law Delphine Lichty, as well as by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Arthur Lichty his first wife Eunice and second wife Olive, Mervin Lichty and Cranson Lichty and wife Mae, sisters, Glennis and husband Bill Verkerke, Bernice and husband John Randall and her brother-in-law Abner Shantz. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2017 at Shantz Mennonite Church, 2473 Erb's Road, Baden at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Penner officiating. Burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Nithview Community or Mennonite Central Committee (Cheques Accepted).
