Carl enjoyed being a farmer, and was innovative and successful in his long career. Partnering with his father and brother James, the Mitchells’ farming operation raised tobacco, cattle, sheep, grain and hay on many hundreds of acres in Franklin and Owen Counties. After retiring, his well-known commercial vegetable garden became his passion. He was also a great cook, and many people loved his deliveries of delicious country ham and biscuits.
