Born Evelyn Robertson Grantham. After graduating from Radcliffe, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, she held many positions in the New York publishing world, mostly under her first married name of Eve Auchincloss. These included associate editor of Mademoiselle, associate editor of the New York Review of Books from its founding; the New York editor of Book World, and senior editor of Connoisseur Magazine. She also wrote articles for the Daily Telegraph while living in London.

Daughter of James Grantham and Helen Kelley Little. Married first, James Douglas Auchincloss (1913-2000), 6 Mar 1946, in New York, NY.
