He was born on Oct. 23, 1940 in Oklahoma City, OK to Eugene & Ruby (Smith) Long. Vernon served in the United States Army Reserve, Air Force and Navy for ten years. Vernon moved his family to Patoka, IN in 1985 when was transferred from PPG in Wichita Falls, TX to PPG in Evansville where he worked from 1980-2001. Was a member of The New Life Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, IN. He was preceded death by his parents, first wife Joanna Long, son-in-law Jason Hedge, a sister Deloris Clark. Step- sons Steven Hess and James “Cricket” Robins.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Hess, sons Vernon E. Long of Princeton, IN, Jeff Robbins of Terre Haute, IN and Daughters Stefanie “Long” Hedge of Evansville, IN, Jamie “Long” (Dennis) Griggs of Las Vegas, NV. Has 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:30 P.M on Wednesday Oct. 17, 2018 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Larry Stoops officiating, Burial will take place in Blackfoot Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until services on Wednesday at the chapel.
