Sharon Ann Hess, age 80, of Berlin, Wisconsin, passed into the arms of our Lord, surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at a family celebration.
She was born July 9, 1938, in Berlin, the daughter of Clifford and Dorothy Inda Chier. Sharon was a 1956 graduate of Berlin High School. On May 25th, 1957, she was united in marriage to George Hess Jr. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Berlin.
Sharon was a devout Catholic, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. You could always find her in the stands watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed winters in Arizona, traveling with her husband throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, along with trips to Puerto Rico, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England, golfing with friends (even got a hole-in-one at Mascoutin Country Club!), lunch with her cousins, entertaining, planning her 1956 Class Reunions and those unexpected visits from family and friends.
She was a Green Bay Packers fan, loved watching Wheel of Fortune and doing puzzles and crosswords. Although Sharon enjoyed all family celebrations, Christmas Eve was a special time in her home when all 45+ family members were all together in one place at one time where they appreciated listening to her play Christmas carols on the organ. Her family enjoyed her intuition and love of music, dancing and fashion. She was active doing several things at St. Michael Catholic School, including sewing the curtains and girls’ cheerleading outfits. Sharon was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin.
She is survived by her eight children, Kim (Tom) Gonyo, Michael (Julie) Hess, Lori (Thomas) Phillippi, Mark (Sandy) Hess, Randy (Chris) Hess, Jan (Todd) Huggins, Matt Hess (fiancé, Mindy Chandler) and Joleen Hess; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lynn (Pat) McConnell.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, George Jr., on September 1, 2014; her parents; brother, Russ (Laura) Chier; and two grandchildren, Nolan Phillippi and Sonya Hess.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m., at All Saints Catholic Parish in Berlin, Father Jerome Maksvytis officiating. Private inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
