She was the most giving and kind person I have ever known. She was also the most resilient and tenacious person I have ever seen. She dealt with numerous hurdles in her life and jumped them all. She had a "can do" attitude that rivaled Winston Churchill's. Everyone that knew her said they were enriched and enchanted by her company due to her generosity, intelligence, grace, caring and wry sense of humor.
She was a Navy Officer's wife, yet on her own accord, got her Real Estate License, a Furniture Wholesale License and a Masters Degree (which she put to use by being a Teacher for intellectually and socially challenged children). She made extra income (back in an era when it wasn't common for the wife to work) in order to bring the finer things in life to the people she loved in an above and beyond manner that was selfless and from her heart.
She was proud of her heritage, coming from a family of notable persons such as her father, William E. Mahin, who helped invent the wire/tape recorder and was on the Oppenheimer team during World War II, as well as having 17 patents to his name. Also, a Grandfather, Edward Mahin, that was a Physics Professor at Notre Dame. She was a proud Daughter of the American Revolution (D.A.R) as well. She lived a rich life with many travels and adventures and is greatly missed and loved.
Her Soul has moved on and her Spirit resides within the hearts of those that loved and cared for her as well as those she loved and cared for
She is predeceased by her husband, John (Jack), Captain United States Navy. Memorial Services will be held on a date to be announced at Willamette National Cemetery where she will rest with her late husband. Memorial donations may be made in Diane's name to the Ho'opono Services for the Blind 1901 Bachelot St. Honolulu, HI 96817.
I write this post on behalf of all her family and friends and all comments and sentiments are welcome.
