Wilford F. Howell Jr., 86, of West Pittston, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in West Pittston on Nov. 1, 1931, a son of the late Wilford Sr. and Esther Dymond Howell. He was a graduate of West Pittston High School and a member of First United Methodist Church, West Pittston.

Wilford served in the United States Army in the 31st Battalion 7th Infantry division during the Korean Conflict.

Wilford was a member of American Legion Post 672, Dallas.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 37 years by Commonwealth Telephone and served as president of The Communications Workers of America.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Wilford was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2017; brother, Russell; and sister, Elizabeth.

Wilford is survived by sons, Russell and wife, Amy, Plains Twp.; Wayne and wife, Judie, Wilkes-Barre; David and wife, Maureen, The Villages, Fla.; daughters, Beverly Bellone and husband, Louis, Hanover Twp.; Sharlene Brown and husband, Doug, West Pittston; Colleen Frushon and husband, Joe, Dupont; Chrissy Fernandes and husband, Shawn, West Pittston; brother, Ken, South Dakota; sisters, Jean, Hughestown; and Marge, Florida; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Rev. Tenny Rupnick will officiate. Those attending the funeral service are asked to arrive at the funeral home no later than 9:45 a.m. Interment will be in Mountain View Burial Park, Harding.
